Make It Personal

What does making something personal mean to you? It seems that when we make something personal and take ownership, the opportunity or to make a difference increases.

Our L & D Safe Sober Team

We see this with our Safe Sober Prom Night program. The long term success of this program is mostly due to our Lewis and Daggett team making it personal to help out our students. making it personal is what gives it deeper and lasting meaning.

Activities and pursuits always mean more when they are close to home. For us, we deal with the consequences of drinking and driving all too frequently at our firm. Accordingly, our team has developed a passion to help young people that has become part of our values and culture.

Several weeks ago my wife and I attended a presentation by Dr. Wayne Meredith who is the Chairperson of General Surgery at Wake forest University Baptist medical center and a trauma surgeon. He described injury by trauma to young people as an epidemic. Trauma is a greater cause of injury and death than any disease, and car accidents are the largest area of trauma.

Our young people they need constant reminders of the dangers they face. For teens, the single most dangerous thing they can do is to ride in a car with another teen. Add drinking to the equation and the chances for disaster are high. Helping teens to think about the consequences is a never ending chore, but working with them is also something we very much enjoy.

We are so very proud of our team and the way they "make it personal" to work with our teens. Young people, please be careful!
